最近美国FDA警告说，采用GDH-PQQ检测方法测定血糖的血糖仪，存在误报血糖现象。原因是该GDH-PQQ方法无法区分葡萄糖与其他类型糖的差别。

这些情况主要出现在输液的病人，可能输入了非葡萄糖的其他类型的糖，还有接受透析的肾功能衰竭的病人，透析液里可能也含有其他类型的糖。在这种情况下，GDH-PQQ检测方法虚报血糖值，医生基于错误的血糖值给病人过量的胰岛素，从1997年到2009年间，美国已经确认13例病人的死与误报血糖有关。

所谓GDH-PQQ指glucose dehydrogenase pyrroloquinoline quinone, 这种方法与非葡萄糖例如 麦芽糖（maltose）,半乳糖（ galactose）, 和 木糖（xylose） 有交叉反应。

FDA建议，在医院接受输液治疗的病人，血糖监测不应该只看小血糖仪的结果，还应当送血样到化验室检测血糖，并以化验室的结果为标准。
